Change ensures spaces for hirers
Visitors to Garthwaite Pavilion may notice a small change, as we have recently installed a low barrier at the entrance to the car park. The barrier will be closed from 8pm on a Friday and Saturday evening, and opened again the following day to allow access for the users of the pavilion and allotments.
What’s this for?
The barrier is necessary in order to ensure that the car park is available for users of the pavilion and the playing fields. Currently, with a youth football team playing matches on the pitches at Long Meadow School, traffic arriving for those matches is filling up the pavilion car park early on Saturdays and Sundays. This means that, when people arrive who have paid for the hire of the pavilion or playing fields, there is nowhere left for them to park.
What about other times?
The car park will be open at all other times, 24 hours a day as it always has been. There will be no impact on school traffic.
What if there are cars parked at 8pm?
We have erected several signs at the entrance and around the parking spaces throughout the car park to make sure that drivers know to expect the car park to be closed. We will not be able to come and open the barrier for anyone whose car is “locked in” after the barrier is closed.
When will this take effect?
The barrier and the signage is all in place. We will implement this from the evening of Friday 30th January.
What about the allotments?
We appreciate that this may impose a small inconvenience on tenants of Garthwaite Allotment tenants during the lighter evenings in the summer months. We have engaged with all affected tenants in advance to make them aware of the change.
Can I still get there by foot/bicycle/wheelchair/etc?
Yes, the Redways and other paths leading to Garthwaite Pavilion, the playing fields and the allotments are unaffected by this change.
