Wards Reunited
For more than a decade, both Emerson Valley and Furzton have been carved in two in terms of representation on Milton Keynes City Council. Since 2014, areas to the north-west of Loughton Brook have fallen under the Shenley Brook End Ward, and the south-east under West Bletchley. All the while, both north and south have belonged to Shenley Brook End & Tattenhoe Parish Council.
Now the democratic boundaries of Milton Keynes are being recast to better reflect our growing population, evening out the number of electors (voters) for each city councillor.
The changes were proposed by the City Council, were independently reviewed and, following two consultations, have been published as recommendations by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE).
From next year, the entirety of Emerson Valley and Furzton will join Shenley Brook End and Shenley Lodge under a redrawn ward, to be known simply as Furzton. The new Furzton ward will have three city councillors, covering the entirety of the four estates, rather than sharing representation with West Bletchley.
The existing city ward of Tattenhoe will remain unchanged, with three councillors representing Kingsmead, Tattenhoe, Tattenhoe Park (with its rapidly growing electorate) and Westcroft, as well as Oxley Park in the Parish of Shenley Church End.
Remember: this is a change to MK City wards only; the parish council boundaries are not changing. All 8 of the grid squares currently under Shenley Brook End & Tattenhoe Parish Council will remain under our care.
In all, the total number of Milton Keynes councillors across the city will increase from 57 to 60, and the number of wards will increase from 19 to 21. These changes will come into law ahead of May 2026, when all Milton Keynes City Council seats will come up for election.
