Meet up, spread out, get picking!

Every year, the community comes together to clean up the parish.  Whether litter has been dropped deliberately, through carelessness or by accident, the fact remains that we all have a job to do keeping on top of the waste that builds up in our area.

In January 2025, Keep Britain Tidy published a report into the UK’s litter problems, and to be quite honest it makes for grim reading.  More than 90% of areas surveyed contained litter, and the vast majority of respondents say they notice litter daily.  Most alarming is that 52% of people believe that littering has become normal behaviour.

When asked to think about areas with significant levels of littering, people responded that heavily littered areas feel less safe (66%), negatively affect mental health (67%), are less attractive to businesses (78%) and are less attractive to consider moving to (87%).

So what’s this got to to with our parish?

Well, you all know the answer: we have a litter problem like most places do, and most of us can do something about it.  Most of us can carry a plastic bag in our coat pockets, backpacks or handbags to take our rubbish home with us, and we can all set a good example to younger residents so they grow up understanding their responsibility to the environment.

We would love to see you join us throughout May to cover all 8 grid squares of the parish and leave our home sparklingly clean.  While we can’t clear everything in one fell swoop, we promise you that litter picking makes a big difference.

Check below for meeting places, dates and times, and we’ll see you there!
