Success for the Parish Council’s Environment & Landscape Team

It is with pride that Shenley Brook End & Tattenhoe Parish Council, in partnership with Milton Keynes Council, have achieved the Green Flag Award at Shenley Brook End Recreation Ground. The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

After 18 months that have seen our parks and green spaces play a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely, the news that this park has achieved the Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that make the park a great destination that everyone can enjoy.

The award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from central Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces in the UK and around the world.

To meet the requirements demanded by the scheme is a tribute to the hard work of the staff and its volunteers who do so much to ensure that the park has high standards of horticulture, safety and environmental management and is a place that supports people to live healthy lives. It is the long-term goal for all the local parks within this parish to meet this standard and we have all been working tirelessly to achieve it.

Phil Snell, Milton Keynes Council Strategic Landscape & Countryside Manager, gave his thanks to everybody involved in the park’s Green Flag achievement and is looking forward to the future development of the partnership with the Parish and Milton Keynes Council and most importantly the Parks volunteers.

Wayne Palmer, Environmental Services Manager, would like to give his personal thanks to everyone involved in making Garthwaite Local Park worthy of a Green Flag Award. Keep an eye for future events in the community to help us to continue improving all the parks within the parish.
