New growth in North Furzton
Our Environment & Landscape Team work hard all year round to keep our parish looking great and growing healthily. Alongside the on-going maintenance of our existing shrubs, grasses and trees, they also find time to kick-start new growth.
The team recently visited Lynmouth Crescent play area in Furzton to turn over an unused patch of land and plant a new insect-friendly rock garden. As you know, nature is under threat across the country, from large mammals to small birds to the tiniest minibeasts, so we do what we can to give them a boost. That’s why Furzton’s newest little garden features a range of flowering plants that are favourites of butterflies, hoverflies, bees and more.
We have planted:
- 17 lamb’s ear (Stachys byzantina ‘silver carpet’)
- 12 Mexican feather grass (Stipa tenuissima ‘ponytail’)
- 10 rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
- 6 Argentinian vervain (Verbena bonariensis)
- 3 dwarf lilac (Syringa ‘Miss Kim’)
- 3 woodland Sage (Salvia x sylvestris ‘Schneehügel’)
- 3 woodland Sage (Salvia nemerosa ‘rose queen’)
- 1 butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii ‘black knight’)
- 1 butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii ‘Sophie’)
We hope it goes without saying that these plants will need to be left undisturbed as they start to grow, so please take care while admiring them. And remember, bees generally only sting in defence, so if we don’t bother them, they won’t bother us!
We hope you enjoy seeing our garden grow!
